A Hurting People
Since December 29, 1890, the
memorable date of The Massacre at
Wounded Knee, the generations of the
Lakota Sioux residing on the Pine Ridge
Indian Reservation in South Dakota have
suffered. Their lives are battered by
anger, bitterness, and depression
because their land was taken away and
their families massacred.  For seven
generations, deep depression has made
its mark on the   people of Pine Ridge
and other  reservations.  The men
cannot find jobs and so they drown their
sorrows in drunkedness, teenagers are
hopeless and some resort to suicide
(150% more teen suicides than the
national average) and 97% of the people
live below poverty level with nearly an
85% unemployment rate.
